Theatres across the UK have been given the go ahead to open their doors from the 15th August as long as they comply with social distancing.

The guidelines state that socially distanced indoor performances can now begin again following theatres being shut for over five months, however, top industry professionals are urging government to go further and allow for full reopening. The current rules allow for indoor live performances as long as seating is distanced and audience members wear a face covering throughout the performance. While this is good news for those of us who have missed visiting the theatre, for the theatres themselves, the lower capacity will mean they will struggle to cover the cost of the performances. Many of them have taken the decision to remain closed until at least November.
