Christmas Markets have been growing in popularity over the past few years and now, you can’t go to a city centre during November and December without seeing brightly lit chalets selling a whole range of interesting gifts and the delicious smells of mulled wine and roasting chestnuts.
The best thing? These markets can be found all over the UK, so you’re never going to be that far away from one and as we’re a friendly bunch, we’ve put together our top five UK Christmas markets for you, so you can experience some of the best the country can offer.

  • London
Ok, we’ll get the big one out of the way first. If you’re heading to the capital you’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to Christmas events. Those in central can go to Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park, perhaps the city’s most famous Christmas festival or if you’re on the edges, Winterville in Clapham. A great place to visit though is South Bank, every year you’ll get to experience a wonderful Christmas market and festival where you’ll find handmade gifts and festive foods, plus the South Bank Centre is hosting a whole load of festive events, like the snow ball, carols and more including a Caribbean Christmas party!
  • Glasgow
You’re likely to see some snow if you’re in Scotland, but if you want to really feel festive Glasgow has several Christmas markets to choose from. The George Square Christmas Market and St Enoch Square Christmas Market are both unusual and offer lots of gifts and crafts. That’s not all though, the city also hosts a Christmas Fair at the Riverside Museum and a Christmas themed Super Market at Argyle Street Arches.
  • Bath
We can’t not mention the UK’s favourite Christmas market (as voted for by the National Outdoor Events Association in 2017!). The market is one of the biggest in the south west and welcomes thousands of visitors every year. The beautiful Georgian streets are filled with over 180 Alpine chalets selling everything you can think of! If you’re done with wandering around the market, Bath also hosts their own ice-skating event that coincides with the market.
  • Birmingham
Birmingham’s Christmas market is kind of special because it is the biggest German Christmas market outside of Germany or Austria. The Frankfurt Christmas Market sits alongside the Christmas Craft Market and with the constant smell of sizzling bratwurst, you’ll be hard pressed to miss it. You can find lots of fun gifts, plus some great seasonal German foods like pretzels, schnitzels, baumkuche and weissbeer to name a few. And there is live music and a skate rink!
  • Portsmouth
For the Christmas season, Portsmouth’s historic dockyard is transformed into a Victorian themed street with snow covered cobbles, a market and people in costume! The market has over 100 stalls and visitors can visit pop ups such as Fagin’s Tavern. The Dickens Christmas Festival is a wonderful celebration, not just of Christmas, but also of Charles Dickens and his famous festive tale, A Christmas Carol.
