Victorian Christmas at Devnports of Cheshire

About

One of our most popular events and this year will be no exception with many bookings already in. With less operating days and reduced capacity, if you want to experience our magical Victorian Christmas we strongly recommend booking early.

Davenports Victorian Christmas is like stepping back in time, some customers have even said they feel like they are on a set from Downton Abbey…..

After much research and visits to places such as Alnwick Castle and Chatsworth House, Davenports Tea Room is decorated in a Victorian style with tables holding tall candelabras with large flower arrangements, antique silver and glassware, holly & greenery adorn the tables. Tasteful, period Christmas music, staff dressed in Victorian costume, sights and smells of freshly baked scones and mulled wine tantalise the senses on arrival.

There are two versions of Victorian Christmas Afternoon Tea.

Both versions include: Mulled wine on arrival (alcoholic or non-alcoholic), a mixed round of sandwiches: fillings consist of delicious home-cooked turkey, with locally made cranberry sauce; home cooked ham, cooked in Cheshire apple juice with cloves, then roasted off with some demerara sugar; and also our popular homemade potted beef; and Scottish smoked salmon and cream cheese and cheese and Christmas chutney.    (Please note:  vegetarian/pescatarian are available as Traditional Afternoon Teas only pre-booked with at least 24hrs notice and items will be substituted according to diet, which may be discussed at the time of booking).  We also reserve the right to make substitutions if products are not available.

Traditional version: includes: mouth-watering locally made & home-made Victorian Christmas inspired cakes on the top two tiers of your antique tea stand, with freshly baked warm cherry & cinnamon, plain with a hint of Christmas rose or cheese scones with stilton and chutney on the side as preferred.   All scones are brought out separately and served with locally made Cheshire clotted cream and locally made jam.

Combination version: includes: If you don’t like too many cakes (there are some people!) our combination version has less cakes by replacing the middle tier of cakes, with a tier of Christmas themed savoury items, such as chicken and ham layered pie, pork pie, partridge & pear pate with sloe gin, selection of cheeses, Christmas chutney, mixed cheese biscuits.  Sandwiches etc. all included as above and the price per person is the same.  At the time of booking we will ask which version you would like to order.  It is not possible to change on the day.

Both also include: a pot of tea per person from our extensive range of loose-leaf speciality teas, brewed to your liking or a cafeteria from our range of artisan coffees.  Includes an eco-friendly non-plastic cracker each (please note that we have previously indicated that this would be a make your own cracker but since many customers struggled to make them and we have struggled ourselves to source them so have substituted them this year.  On the table will be our Christmas quiz , which this year is a multiple choice competition quiz.  If you submit the answers by 24th Dec 2022, you may be lucky to win an afternoon tea for two. (The draw takes place close of business Christmas eve and is being run on Facebook as well.)

All this, plus as you leave, everyone will receive a little gift from us, all of makes our Victorian Christmas a very special event.

So, it’s no wonder Davenports Tea Room has been listed as one of the top ten places to visit at Christmas by The Times.

Available from Fri 18 Nov on Fri/Sat/Sun/Mon throughout November & December plus an extra day Thu 22 Dec, until Sat 24 Dec.  During these dates only the Victorian Christmas Afternoon Tea (both versions) may be booked, no other afternoon teas.  Please note this year we will not be opening in between Christmas and New Year, and we re-open on Fri 6th Jan 2023
