The idyllic, stone built, Tuckwell Amphitheatre is the perfect setting for the annual Open Air Theatre Festival. Surrounded by lush trees and shrubs and sheltered from the outside world, this magical venue attracts the very best in touring open-air theatre from across the UK.
This gem of an outdoor festival, tucked away in a secluded corner of Dean Close School, plays host to sublime jazz, classic drama, inspiring Shakespeare, colourful family entertainment, local talent and the enchanting Cinema Under the Stars.
Locals and visitors this summer can look forward to a line-up that will have them laughing their socks off, singing their hearts out and gripped in wonder.
Alongside incredible shows, festival highlights include fabulous food and a fully stocked bar and café. The team at the Tuckwell can’t wait to welcome you back!
When visiting, please bring low-backed seating (camping/deck chairs are ideal) and prepare for all weathers. In the event of unsafe weather this event will transfer into the Bacon Theatre.
Tuckwell Amphitheatre is just a short distance away from the Bacon Theatre, and there is free on-site parking available. Please be aware that spaces cannot be guaranteed during busy periods so please allow plenty of time for parking.

By car:The Bacon Theatre, Prince Michael Hall and Tuckwell Amphitheatre are just minutes from the Junction 11 on the M5 and only 1½ miles from Cheltenham town centre.The Bacon Theatre and Prince Michael Hall are accessed via the Hatherley Road entrance to Dean Close School. Simply follow the brown tourism signs from either end of the Hatherley Road. For satellite navigation purposes only, enter the postcode GL51 6EP. The Tuckwell Amphitheatre is accessed from Shelburne Road (GL51 6HE) which may also be approached from Hatherley Road. There is free on-site parking available at both sites. Please be aware that spaces cannot be guaranteed during busy periods so please allow plenty of time for parking.
By rail: The Bacon Theatre is ½ mile from Cheltenham Spa railway station, with direct links to London Paddington, Birmingham New Street and Bristol Temple Meads. By Bus: Buses 97 and 98 from Gloucester stop in Hatherley Road near to the Bacon Theatre drive. The 94 bus from Gloucester stops on the Lansdown Road. The D bus from Cheltenham stops in Shelburne Road.
