Trust New Art 'Do it Different' project at The Workhouse

The National Trust at The Workhouse, Southwell has launched a new collaborative art exhibition. 'Do It Different' is the result of an alternative art school run by artist educator, Morgan Tipping.

In 2019 Morgan created a new kind of art school at The Workhouse, working with diverse creatives across Nottinghamshire which included young residents from Southwell's Caudwell House, Minster View and Nottingham MenCap. At 'The Factory Art School,' the collaborators have unique communication, movement and learning styles. Some are on the autistic spectrum, have learning difficulties or are differently mobility abled.

Together, they have collaboratively developed artwork which will be displayed at The Workhouse for the new 2020 season. The project shows a diverse range of creative communication which aims to break the rules and routines of the past. The final exhibition features work developed from 'The Factory Art School' including Workwear (wearable art), Biomovement (exploration of movement-based forms of expression) and Biorhythm (non-verbal musicians and those with restricted mobility made sound and music drawing from innate rhythmical intelligence.)

This project is part of a partnership between the National Trust's Trust New Art and Arts Council England, connecting people to National Trust places through contemporary arts. The project also includes a participatory arts trail around the town of Southwell.
