The Floraphone Make & Do

About

By the artist Bethan Maddocks

12noon-3pm, daily during Weekends and Northumberland school holidays.

The 'Floraphone' is an art installation and making activity by the artist Bethan Maddocks

Help us grow an enchanted musical greenhouse this summer!

Create your own Orchid vinyl and add it to the Floraphone greenhouse collection or take it home to keep.

The 'Floraphone' is inspired by the story of a special flower that was grown and named after local miner and footballing legend Jackie Milburn back in 1953.

Listen carefully. The soundscape that you can hear is inspired by recordings made by Jackie Milburn.

Some people think that sound can help plants to grow, and so they talk or even sing to their plants. We like to think the Floraphone is helping this enchanted greenhouse to grow!

You can find out more about the true story of the orchid and the miner turned footballer in our summer exhibition 'Soundmirror'.
