About

Tours of the old Norman Town include the gates, walls and unique medieval vaults.

Guided Tours of the Southampton's historic old town take place throughout the year every Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday, commencing from the south side of the Bargate near the entrance to the Bargate Shopping Centre at 11.00am.

Public Walks Programme.

Currently, the cost of the walking tours is £3.00, $5 US, 3.5 euro,
(accompanied children and young persons under 16 free) and tickets can be obtained at the beginning of the tour from the guide on duty - cash only please.


All Heritage walks will start from the railings on the South side of the Bargate and last 1½ - 2hrs

Please note that STGA also conducts Heritage walks from the Bargate at 11:00am on Bank Holidays throughout the year.

Special theme walks, and tours for groups, and people with disabilities, including visually impaired people, can be arranged on request. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Groups of more than 8 people must, please, contact the Booking Secretary office hours only on 023 8057 1858 to make a private booking, for which there is a charge.

Road Directions

From M3, exit at J13, signed M27 West-Southampton Docks. Once on M27 move into the left hand land and exit at J3, the M271-Southampton Docks, West Quay and Waterfront. Continue to follow signs for city centre and use car parks in the city centre. The Bargate stands at the southern end of the main pedestrian precinct in the city centre.
From Southampton Tourist Information: Turn right and right again at the corner of the road. Continue straight down to the Bargate. From here you will find signs which will guide you on the Walk the Walls tour, or rendevous with a guide for one of the tours.
