About

Play Rebellion is an interactive exhibition created by artist Pippa Hale. Staged in BALTIC's Level 2 gallery, audiences are invited to become active participants and get physical with the artwork, creating new possibilities and reconnecting with their inner creative geniuses.
This exhibition encourages visitors of all ages to come together through play, to rebel against the system and reconnect with their genius levels of creativity*, and with each other. Visitors are invited to take some time out to reconfigure their world, to make spaces to play, to inspire, to reflect, to relax, to challenge and to talk.

Pippa Hale is a Leeds-based artist interested in connecting people and places. Although she works mainly in the public realm and with heritage venues or collections, since having children of her own she has become increasingly interested in play. The 1m cubes presented in the gallery are PlayShapes which break down into steps, triangles, polygons, rectangular prisms, and cylinders. These can be refigured into limitless combinations to create sculptures, installations or playscapes.
