Grinding was one of the most skilled, but strenuous crafts in the cutlery industry. Grinding wheels, or ‘hulls’, were powered by river water and therefore many were situated along Sheffield’s five rivers.
This small display in the Picturing Sheffield gallery at Weston Park Museum features 10 works on paper all with the theme of Sheffield grinding wheels and grinders.
