About

"I love sharing my passion for painting with others, and seeing that creative flame ignite inside of them." Clare
Join local artist Clare Willcocks for a creative day of sketchbook making and botanical watercolour painting at Arlington Court.
The day will begin with making a hard-cover concertina watercolour sketchbook with Victorian, William Morris inspired cover, before heading out into the beautiful gardens to fill it using a range of watercolour painting techniques.
We will concentrate on capturing the array of plants and flowers, creating colourful, loose spreads in our sketchbooks. We will use watercolours, pencils and pens to produce lively sketches.
There will be a 45-minute break for lunch - time to eat a picnic or head over to the cafe for a delicious bite to eat.
After lunch, we will work in the studio, where Clare will guide you through the process of a Victorian-style botanical watercolour painting. We will use photos gathered in the morning, as well as magazines for reference. Working in watercolour, you will produce a detailed painting or paintings of a plant of your choice.
"Thank you so much for the lovely workshop you ran. I really like the way you teach; it's inspired me to gather some more materials and begin using colour!" Woirkshop Attendee
The workshop is open to all abilities. Beginners are very welcome!
A camera phone is optional for capturing photos of plants to paint. A camping chair or something on which you can sit on the ground would be useful!

There is a cafe on site and accessible toilets.
