For the renowned north-eastern artist Norman Cornish MBE (1919-2014), sketching was second nature and an inherent part of his everyday life.
Originally shown at Palace Green Library in 2019-20, this exhibition of little seen sketchbooks presented a new dimension to the artist’s practice, focusing on his observations of life, landscapes, and family, revealing the inner artistic processes behind some of his most iconic works.
The exhibition was supported by funding from Durham County Council and Arts Council England. The 3D walkthrough of the exhibition is available to view here, with thanks to Galliford Try and all of the exhibition lenders.
