Kate Rew & Natasha Brooks

About

Pavilion Arts Centre
Why do we embrace discomfort and risk? What drives us to get too cold and too tired, to overcome fears, in the name of adventure?

Enjoy an evening in conversation with Kate Rew, the founder of the Outdoor Swimming Society, talking about what makes a good swim, and a good adventure and where the outdoor swimming movement goes next. During the evening we will screen Kate's new short film, 'Chasing the Sublime', a mesmeric look at the physicality of long distance cold water swimming by award winning director Amanda Bluglass.

Kate will be interviewed by Natasha Brooks, a film maker, photographer and visual artist based in N Wales and the Peak District. She is also a keen surfer, swimmer and freediver, using her experiences in these activities to feed into her creative works.

Come and join Natasha to hear the tales she brings to you from the deep as she takes you on a visual tour from the underworld and beyond. From the roaring oceans to serine crystal mountain lakes with all the wildlife encounters, hypothermia, and breath holds along the way. Hear how and why she recently became the first person to swim across the treacherous Bardsey straight without the aid of a wetsuit and why all the effort and discomfort is well worth it!
