Notes & Sounds presents Joshua Weitzel.
Joshua Weitzel is a guitarist and shamisen player from Kassel, Germany, who works mostly in the field of free improvisation, experimental composition, and contemporary jazz. His work is based on a deep exploration of dynamics, materials, and contrasting parameters.
He is co-founder of both the Contemporary Shamisen Duo, together with shamisen Master Ryota Saito, and the Ensemble for Experimental Chamber Music Kassel/Interrogation Quartet, together with Chie Nagai, Ulrike Lentz and Massimo Magee. He has worked with artists from various other disciplines, including performance, dance, poetry, painting and film, and has played in Europe and Asia with artists such as Akiyama Tetuzi, Christian Wolff, Toshimaru Nakamura, Matthias Schubert, Eddie Prévost, Hayashi Eiichi, Alfred 23 Harth, Haco, Nicola Hein and many others.
He will be performing a solo set, and with a five piece ensemble.
