Manchester celebrates International Mother Language Day 2020 with a family-friendly event on Thursday 20th. 'How do you say Our Kid in Kurdish? & other questions' from 6pm at Manchester Museum includes an evening of interactive games, crafts and activities exploring the 200 languages spoken in our homes, our families and our city.
Step into our multilingual 'shop', label up the fruit and vegetables in your languages, find out more about the names of your clothes and get to grips with the Arabic alphabet in our new building blocks game!
Decorate your home on a big, interactive artwork celebrating Manchester's multilingual streets and tell us what languages mean to you as part of an instant photo exhibition.
The event, organised by the Multilingual Manchester research unit at the University of Manchester, includes Q+A sessions with experts on child bilingualism and other topics. It's a chance to celebrate, enjoy and learn more about languages.
This is a free event, from 6.00-8.30pm. Most activities will be best suited to adults and older children, but younger kids are more than welcome to come along too!
