About

Christmas in Newcastle wouldn't be complete without a visit to Fenwick Christmas Window on Northumberland Street - Newcastle's bustling high street. Each year the iconic department store unveils a beautiful Christmas themed window, with moving characters, a bespoke soundtrack and twinkling lights. Fenwick Christmas Window is truly enchanting and draws crowds throughout the festive season. It is a must-see during Christmas in Newcastle - with scores of families and mesmerised children waiting to discover the story that unfolds across each of the windows.

The 2019 Fenwick's Christmas Window is Charlie and The Chocolate Factory with colourful and fun-filled moments from the famous Roald Dahl children's classic told across the length of the department store's windows. There is much to see in each window with much-loved characters including Willy Wonka and Charlie himself recreated in the iconic style of illustrator Quentin Blake.

In previous years, visitors to Fenwick Christmas window have been charmed by Paddington Bear, Alice in Wonderland, scenes from classic children's book, The Snowman as well as Santa's Grotto and even depiction of Gulliver's Travels.  Anticipation always builds as the Winter Festival season arrives and the big questions is - what will be the theme for Fenwick Christmas Window this year? Now you can wander along the Northumberland Street shop front and relive the story of Charlie and The Chocolate Factory.

Each year the unveiling of the window becomes a bigger and more magical affair. Make sure you're there to be the first to see what this year's theme will be. The grand unveiling of Fenwick Christmas Windows took place in early November and the Christmas Window will be on show until the end of December.

Marked as the official beginning of Christmas festivities in the North East, the Fenwick Christmas Window annual display takes place at the flagship Fenwick Newcastle department store and is one of the largest Christmas showcases in Europe.

Wonder along to see the window this Christmas and soak up the festive atmosphere. Don't forget to pop into Fenwick and head to their dedicated festive floor which is decked out with the very best in gifts, decorations and stocking fillers and often selling merchandise to remind you of the themed window. Fenwick Food Hall is also a paradise of artisan food, local delicacies and food and drink gifts.
