Eden Project, Cornwall

Dubbed the 'Eighth Wonder of the World' by some, the Eden Project  is a dramatic global garden housed in tropical biomes that nestle in a crater the size of 30 football pitches.

Many people don't realise that the Eden Project is actually an educational charity, which supports learning projects, and as well as being open for educational visits you can also study there for an MSc in Sustainability and take an Eden degree!  They also offer apprenticeships.  Children can find out where tea, rubber and sugar come from, and travel the world to the simulated environments of tropical destinations that they dream of travelling to in the future.

Eden allows you to experience the sights, smells and scale of the landscape changing Biomes.  Travel to South Africa and California, as you amble amongst the orange and lemon trees, olive groves and gnarled vines of the Warm Temperate Biome, and in the 30-acre Roofless Biome see hemp, sunflowers and other plants that could change your future, flourishing under the Cornish sun.  Be prepared for the Tropical Biome, however chilly or mild the climate outside wearing layers is a good idea as it is exceptionally warm!

As well as the Biomes, a stroll around the site itself offers something different with every change of the season, so no matter what time of year you visit, there is always something to see.

A fascinating location, but, more importantly, the Eden Project is a fun and family friendly day out.

There are themed events according to the seasons, workshops for adults and children, activity days, music concerts - the well know Eden Sessions and much more besides.

There's no stress about packing up a family survival kit - facilities include on-site restaurants and cafes, gift shops and well equipped child- and baby-friendly toilet facilities.  Head Chef Tony Trenerry and his team pride themselves on using fresh, locally sourced produce and ingredients grown on site.

There is a large gift shop that sells ethical and responsibly sourced products including gifts, books, plants and seeds, decorative items for the garden, locally produced food and drink, gardening tools, home accessories and much more!

In fact, for a day out you needn't worry about taking much more than yourselves!

The Eden Project offers easy access to wheelchairs and buggies.  There is a land train available and buses from the car parks to the main entrance.
