This ancient custom is all but unique to Derbyshire. Before the county boundaries were moved, Dore was in Derbyshire but today it's in South Yorkshire.
The first well dressing in Dore was held in 1959 in order to attract more people to the scout gala and donations were collected for charity. The well dressing has continued ever since under the auspices of the Sheffield 267th (Dore) scout group, collecting monies for a variety of charities and good causes.
Refreshments are available at two cafes and two pubs located in the centre of the village.
