Cinema Under the Stars

About

Following on from the early summer outdoor theatre, Brownsea Island is hosting a treat for film lovers with its first ever outdoor cinema.

Eighties hit film Top Gun and family favourite The Greatest Showman are being shown on the big screen as part of the island's first cinema under the stars. The National Trust has partnered with Firefly events to give you the chance to watch films in the open air on Brownsea Island.

On Fri 20 Sep, Top Gun will be showing. The 1986 film stars Tom Cruise and Val Kilmer - a romantic action film rated 12 . On Sat 21 Sep, it's the turn of 2017's musical blockbuster The Greatest Showman - which features the earworm This Is Me is rated PG.

Drinks and light refreshments will be available but cinema goers are invited to bring a picnic for this relaxed family-friendly pop-up cinema event. Eco camping is on offer until the end of September, giving you the chance to stay overnight when the film finishes.

Brownsea Island's Visitor and Volunteering Experience Manager Olivia Gruitt said: "We're really excited to welcome open air cinema to the island. We're looking forward to welcoming lots of families over for this and hope that the films chosen will appeal to a wide range of people. Because it's taking place late September, there's still a chance to take advantage of our new eco camping as well - staying over on the historic campsite for the night."

Ticketholders for the open air cinema will be able to arrive on the island from 5.30pm, with the films starting at 7.30pm.

There will be ferries back to the mainland after the film screenings, or you can book overnight camping.
