Statement from Paignton Regatta Committee
It is with enormous regret that the Paignton Regatta Committee have agreed to cancel their event for 2021.
The regatta would have been held in the first week of August and is a traditional seaside community event, based around the Regatta stage. The event has been running since 1847 and apart from a short break during the two world wars, it has taken place every year. The event was cancelled in 2020 due to Covid-19 restrictions.
We understand that many people will be disappointed with our decision, however we are determined that Regatta will take place in 2022.
We’ve been working hard over the last few years to mix our traditional events with an abundance of live entertainment on our stage and this year is shaping up to be bigger than ever! This year we have over 80 hours of FREE family fun to bring you, based on Paignton Green, Paignton Beach and Torbay Velopark.
Our event is run entirely by a small but dedicated band of local volunteers and all our events are funded through sponsorship, advertising and the support of our stallholders, plus the kind donations of the public who visit us during the week. Our event also supports and raises money for a number of charities and local good causes.
Some of our time-honoured favourites are still on the programme, including the Bay’s biggest firework display. This is our biggest opportunity to fundraise for our event and our chosen charities, so please bring along any change your can spare and drop it into the collecting buckets carried by our volunteers.
As well as our stage entertainment, we have demonstrations and displays for all the family; plus a fully-licensed bar, hot and cold food and a number of stalls selling crafts or raising money and awareness for local and national causes. Anderton & Rowlands funfair will be joining us and bringing all the fun of the fair to Paignton Green.
Our free programme will be in shops and holiday accommodation around Torbay from July, plus we will have plenty of copies at Regatta HQ on the Green. If you have a programme, you won't miss a thing!
