About

Merchant trade has been the cornerstone of Bristol’s prosperity over many centuries and its involvement with the ‘Triangular Trade’ during much of the 18th century brought considerable wealth to the city. This tour will provide a history of Bristol as a port, explain how Bristol came to participate in the Transatlantic Slave Trade, and discuss Edward Colston's divisive legacy to Bristol. The tour starts in the old port area in the city centre and continues via College Green and concludes in Queen Square.
