Bristol Beacon have announced their 2023/24 Reopening Orchestral Season, bringing symphonic orchestral music back home to Bristol.

This is the first orchestral season to take place in the wonderful new auditorium, Beacon Hall, with improved acoustics and 21st century levels of audience comfort, access and stage technology.

Tuesday 19th December 2023 - Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra with Kirill Karabits
Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra opens our 2023/24 season in celebratory style. A new fanfare from Mark-Anthony Turnage heralds spectacular orchestral showpieces from Beethoven and Stravinsky.

Sunday 28th January 2024 - Odyssey by Jonathan Dove 
The world premiere of Odyssey, a powerful new music-drama for singers and orchestra composed by Jonathan Dove. 
This performance is part of a day of creativity co-curated with members of the refugee community in Bristol, centering the lived experience of refugees and those who seek safety in another country.

Monday 12 February 2024 - Strasbourg Philharmonic Orchestra with Marko Letonja
Four masterpieces of the French repertoire are here presented alongside Rachmaninov’s impossibly romantic piano concerto performed by one of the world’s greatest pianists, Nikolai Lugansky.

Thursday 22nd February 2024 - Royal Northern Sinfonia with Dinis Souza
Mozart’s sparkling Clarinet Concerto sits at the heart of a trio of classical favourites from North East-based chamber orchestra Royal Northern Sinfonia, their Principal Conductor Dinis Sousa and celebrated clarinettist Julian Bliss.

Monday 4th March 2024 - London Symphony Orchestra with Sir Simon Rattle
John Adams always has something interesting to say about the world we live in. Be among the first to hear a new work from him, flanked by Roy Harris’ tragic glimpse of dust bowl-era America and some of Gershwin’s most seductive tunes.

Friday 12th April 2024 - London Symphony Orchestra with Sir Antonio Pappano
This is the first time Sir Antonio Pappano, LSO Chief Conductor Designate, has conducted music by Marsalis, and he and the LSO pay tribute to the composer in this deeply felt performance of his Trumpet Concerto. Soloist Alison Balsom, for whom the concerto was written, is attuned to every nuance of the piece.

Thursday 18th April 2024 - Dresden Philharmonic with Stanislav Kochanovsky  
This leading German orchestra returns to Bristol with Tchaikovsky’s Sixth Symphony – a work that is as uplifting as it is harrowing. Having performed a number of memorable concerts in Bristol over the last decade, we’re delighted to welcome them back under their conductor Stanislav Kochanovsky.

Wednesday 8th May 2024 - The Hallé with Sir Mark Elder
As Sir Mark Elder’s tenure as Hallé Music Director reaches its grand finale, this programme acknowledges a core Hallé tradition of English music. He is joined by Sir Stephen Hough, an undisputed “keyboard colossus” (The Guardian) who performs Brahms’ monumental First Piano Concerto.

Friday 17th May 2024 - Royal Philharmonic Orchestra with Emilia Hoving
Grieg, Saint-Säens and Sibelius at his sunniest: this concert features timeless melodies loved the world over. The RPO’s Finnish guest conductor, Emilia Hoving (something of a Sibelius expert), takes us on Sibelius’ journey alongside the unforgettable tunes of Grieg’s ever-popular music from Peer Gynt.

Friday 7th June 2024 - Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra with Kirill Karabits
Dvořák’s homesick postcard home ‘From the New World’ jostles in a world of the American dream with Korngold’s lush, technicolour concerto. Plus Gara Karayev's ballet The Seven Beauties brims with an exotic array of appealing rhythms and melodies, highlighting his distinctive use of native Azerbaijani folk music.
