The Bridgewater Hall - Chets Symphony

About

Average White Band – one of the best funk and soul outfits of all-time – have announced their farewell tour, beginning at The Bridgewater Hall next April.

Formed in London in 1972, the six-piece took influence from R&B heroes including Marvin Gaye, James Brown and Donny Hathaway, developing their own authentic sound which was eagerly adopted by black audiences in the US and elsewhere.

The group’s consistently accomplished song-writing saw them release several gold-selling albums and garner multiple Grammy nominations for the legendary Atlantic Records. In addition to the band’s hit singles – including Let’s Go Round Again, Cut The Cake and Queen Of My Soul – many of their album tracks have been heavily sampled by the likes of Public Enemy, the Beastie Boys, A Tribe Called Quest and many more, so much so that the AWB are one of the top 15 sampled acts of all all-time.

A fixture within top music venues across the world for over 50 years, this tour is the last opportunity for multiple generations of fans to experience the musical energy and trademark sound of one of history’s truly great soul bands.
