For the Americans joining us, no we’re not getting our dates massively wrong, in the UK Mother’s Day is always celebrated in March and as we at Staytripper love our mums, we thought we’d give a little run down of some of the things you can do this Mothering Sunday to help show some appreciation for your mum/mother figure!

One way to spend Mother’s Day is in the luxury setting of a forest with one of the Mother’s Day Dining Trains  journeying through Essex. If trains are your thing, mums get free entry on Colne Valley Railway over Mother’s Day and there are even Cream Teas on offer! Mum’s go free at free at Hatchlands Park in Guildford too, so if the weather is nice, why not head out for some fresh air together?

Westonbirt Arboretum near Bristol is giving mums the chance to enjoy the wonderful spring flowers and if they come with a family member, they don’t have to pay to get in!

It can be hard to treat mum when there is a whole family involved, which is why all Gulliver’s Theme Parks will be offering free entry for all mums throughout the weekend, find out more here. At Tapnell Farm, mums are welcome to let their hair down with free roller skating set to epic power ballads, find out more here.

Alternatively, why not go on a pleasure cruise together? There are Mother’s Day cruises along the canal in Basingstoke.  Or treat your mum to a cruise along the Thames. The resident DJ is set to play a selection of relaxing tunes, while you and mum enjoy brunch with complimentary glasses of wine!

Although taking mum on an adventure might sound great to some, it isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, so why not learn a skill together? At Wynayard Hall in Stockton on Tees, a masterclass in floristry is taking place on Mother’s Day. There is no previous experience needed and all materials are provided!

Not sure that’s the sort of thing your mum would be interested in? You can’t go far wrong with an Afternoon Tea! Tuppenhurst Barn in Staffordshire has a delicious afternoon tea available for mother’s day – just make sure to book in advance. World of Wedgewood have a special Mother’s Day Brunch and Afternoon Tea too, afternoon tea is served with a glass of bucks fizz and there are options for the kids as well! If you think your mum ought to be treated like a queen on this special day, head to Raby Castle in County Durham for the Mother’s Day Tour and Tea. Knowledgeable guides will take you around the castle grounds and then you get to relax with a delicious selection of cakes, sandwiches and scones with clotted cream!

As its Sunday, why not combine Mother’s Day with a Sunday Lunch? At Kingswood Golf and Country Club in Surrey, you can enjoy a Mother’s Day Carvery which comes complete with a special gift for all the mums and a live pianist serenading you as you eat! Danesfieldhouse Hotel and Spa have a special mother’s day lunch menu too, find more details here. The whole family is welcome to join the team at Mannings Heath Golf and Wine Estate in Horsham for a three course Sunday Lunch or cream tea, whatever mum would prefer!
