One of the best things you can do as a family at this time of year is head to the theatre for some festive performances and luckily there are a whole host of them taking place all over the country. To help you narrow down your options, we’ve picked a few festive favourites for you.

For fans of the movie elf, The Redgrave Theatre in Bristol is the place to be. During the Christmas period a musical version of the film is being performed. Find out more here.

For those of you in the mood for some serious classic Christmas treats, why not head to Portsmouth for a performance of A Christmas Carol?

A family classic, the Owl and the Pussycat has been adapted into a stage show at the Everyman Theatre in Cheltenham. The run also includes relaxed performances and BSL interpretations, so everyone can get involved. Find out dates here.

If you’re of the opinion that the only acceptable theatre performances at this time of year are pantomimes, you aren’t alone. There are loads of pantos taking place all over the country, for one with a difference, head to Liverpool for the Scouse Snow White. This isn’t a family friendly panto but for those of you who are in need of a break from excitable children, check it out.

Why not disregard the pros this Christmas and check out some of the smaller performances that are taking place around the country? One option is Tis the Season performed by Manor Theatre Company – find out more here
