With the Oscars coming up  and everyone talking about Britain’s favourite actress, Olivia Coleman, we thought we would put together some spots you can visit that are appearing in this year’s Oscar contenders.

Bohemian Rhapsody


Nominated for Best Film as well as four others, Bohemian Rhapsody tells the story of Queen’s front man, Freddie Mercury, played by Rami Malik. Considering that Queen are one of the UK’s best loved bands, it makes sense that the film was made here. You’ll spot several places in and around London, including the Gillette Building and Hornsey Town Hall in Haringey. It is even London posing as New York in the film! Mary Poppins Returns


Although not in the running for best film, Mary Poppins Returns is nominated for four Oscars and features London prominently. You’ll see lots of iconic landmarks like St Paul’s Cathedral, the Tower of London, the Palace of Westminster, Buckingham Palace  and more! Each of these tourist spots hold events and tours at various points, but there are plenty of other things to do in the city while you sightsee.

Mary Queen of Scots


From one Mary to another, Mary Queen of Scots, which stars Margot Robbie and Saoirse Ronan, was filmed at various locations in England and Scotland including Seacliff Beach and North Beach in East Lothian, Blackness Castle in Linlithgow, Hardwick Hall in Derbyshire and Gloucester Cathedral amongst others. So, whether you’re far up north or way down south, you’ll be able to experience the beautiful Tudor buildings. There are plenty of events going on all over the country for you to take part in when you’re not scouting out film locations, as well as tours.

The Favourite


We had to leave the Oscar’s Favourite to the end really didn’t we? The Favourite, which is also about British Royalty featured Hatfield House in Hertfordshire, as well as the surrounding landscape which has an abundance of Jacobian architecture. While the house itself doesn’t open to the public again until April, there are plenty of other events going on nearby and you’re only an hour from the centre of London should you want to spend some time in the capital.
