The Betfair Northumberland Plate Festival concludes with the Northumberland Plate Day on Saturday 27 June 2020. This is the most famous race meeting of the year at Newcastle Racecourse. The Northumberland Plate is a two mile heritage handicap worth £150,000, making it the richest two mile handicap in Europe. A day at the races in Newcastle is a brilliant way to enjoy time with your friends this summer - watch exhilirating live horse racing, soak up the atmosphere and entertainment and why not come dressed in your finest?
The historic race previously known as the Pitmen's Derby, formed the centrepiece of the holiday period known locally as Race Week for local mine workers. Today's Plate Day attracts a diverse crowd of racegoers and many treat it as the North-East's version of Royal Ascot, but with a more relaxed and informal atmosphere.
